Seems that everywhere you go these days, you find a gift shop chocked full of souvenirs. From sporting events to historical sites, you can find souvenirs commemorating almost any place or occasion. One of the most popular souvenirs is the coffee mug. Why coffee mugs? If you’re not a coffee connoisseur, chances are you drink something that a mug holds, be it tea or soup. Coffee mugs can also be used to hold objects such as pens and pencils.
They make good souvenirs because they come in such a varied array of shapes, sizes and colors. Almost anything you can think of can be found on a coffee mug. Many include humorous cartoons, sayings or our most beloved characters.
Coffee mugs are relatively inexpensive, and in time, can become valuable collectibles, especially when the attraction or event it’s commemorating is now only a fond memory. For example, coffee mugs that were purchased during the excitement of the Royal Wedding increase in value for each year that passes. Coffee mugs that came from a Coney Island souvenir shop are worth more now than when the park was open.
When people give coffee mugs as souvenirs, it shows that they were thinking of the mug’s recipient while they were away. Then, when the recipient of the mug uses the coffee mug, they can be certain that they weren’t forgotten about. When you think about all of the souvenirs that you find on the shelves of a souvenir store, you may just realize that you’re fortunate to receive a coffee mug rather than a carved coconut or your 100th key chain. So the next time you go to Disneyland or witness Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow, go with the coffee mug – it’s a smart choice!
